Blooming Beautiful Bassett brings home DOUBLE GOLD!
Royal Wootton Bassett has been awarded a GOLD in this year's South West in Bloom 2018 Competition.
Following the judging day back in July, members of Royal Wootton Bassett Community Together Group attended the annual South West in Bloom Presentation Awards in Yeovil on 4th October 2018. After being put to the test by RHS Judge, Graham Price on 19th July, the group were eager to find out just how well Bassett faired in this brilliant cause.
Chairman of Royal Wootton Bassett Community Together, Linda Frost was delighted to receive Gold in the 'Town/City Pennant category' and to find out that after this award, Royal Wootton Bassett was chosen as the overall category winner! Coming out on top over 4 other, very beautiful, South West towns!!
Graham Price said 'Royal Wootton Bassett provided a very good entry with an excellent judging route. It was good to meet a cross section of the community who work alongside the local council to keep the town attractive, clean and vibrant throughout the year.'
The whole emphasis from South West in Bloom is to create a sustainable town for future generations whilst involving as much of the community as possible. It's not all about flowers and gardening - quite the opposite!
This year, RWB Community Together has worked with Royal Wootton Bassett Academy with litter picking in the community. St Bartholomew's Primary Academy has begun an ongoing project which will involve young children beautifying the area around the school, with the help of Royal Wootton Bassett's Shed and Gardening Club. Community Together has held many successful yarn bombs, encompassing a variety of members of the public to help with the knitting, including the newly formed U3A group and Royal Wootton Bassett Methodist Church!
(Keep your eyes peeled for our latest yarn bomb - sometime in November!)
Amongst many other projects, RWB Community Together are proud to represent their town and showcase what a fantastic community we have! And the awards just kept coming...
Unbeknown to Community Together, judge Graham Price had entered The Angel into two seperate awards for their outstanding courthyar floral displays. They are pleased to be awarded with the Amberol Trophy for the Best Business Floral Display in the South West as well as coming runner up in the Best Public House Floral Display!
All in all, it has been a very successful year for Royal Wootton Bassett and next year is sure to be bigger and better!!!

Royal Wootton Bassett Community Together holds yet another successful Judging Day for South West in Bloom!
Yet another year of planning, organising, beautifying and cleaning of our town was put to the test on Thursday 16th July 2018, as Royal Wootton Bassett Community Together hosted an RHS judge for this year's entry into South West in Bloom.
Graham Price, Councillor of Kingsbridge and RHS Judge, came to our lovely town and was taken on a tour by our Chairman, Linda Frost. After a short presentation video (see bottom of page), Graham was chauffeur driven by the Town Clerk, to many beautiful areas of Royal Wootton Bassett.
Royal Wootton Bassett Academy and St Bartholomew's Primary Academy were first up on the tour and we can confirm, Graham was delighted with the children's efforts. Next up was our STUNNING High Street which was blooming with all the hanging baskets, shop front displays and the three tier planter by the Town Hall (planted by Wootton Bassett Gardening Club)!
Onto a couple of the town's church's, including the Croft Community Garden. The judge was impressed with the volunteer efforts throughout these stops. The RWB Shed blew the judge away with their fantastic community involvement and their growth over the last two years.
On our way to our last stop, Graham took advantage of the lovely carpet bedding on the A3102. RWB Community Together requested this be used this year to celebrate 100 years of teh RAF - the plane design looks wonderful now the flowers have blossomed. Upon arrival at Jubilee Lake, Graham was informed of all the recent erosion works and congratulated the Town Council on their forward thinking to resolve an issue which now means people can enjoy this beautiful park for many, many more years! As the tour came to an end, Graham had the opportunity to speak to several of the volunteers who have helped make this tour possible whilst munching on delicious cakes made by group member, Suzanne Gore.
Royal Wootton Bassett Community Together would like to thank every member of this town for making our community so fantastic! Since starting this group we have become acutely aware of the numerous groups, organisations, charities, businesses and schools that really make a difference to our town and to the lives of those in our community. It has been our honour to represent you all to the RHS in this year's South West in Bloom judging.
